Week 2 Check-In

Natural Beauties,

I'm back with a other update on check-in for week 2 winter challenge with ends today by the way. Even though it is just the beginning and I'm ready to see this thing through but I know for sure it will be some challenges along the way. As you all know I use my castor oil every other day so even though its day 14 since challenge kicked off it day 9 of me applying the oil to hair. Enough with that here are this week questions and answer.

Reminder these are not my questions

  1. Where do you live?
-You already know but for the ones who don't, I live in Georgia.

2. Are other members of your family naturals too? Who? Were they natural before you or vice versa? Do you all support each other?

-Yes, just about every female family member there's just few that are still relaxed. I would say that me and one of my cousins went natural around the same time and other members joined in shortly after. Yes we support each other all the time on different subject but being that I'm on new journey to use all natural products (homemade) no parabens, sulfate, or alcohol just all natural products. I'm talking about those type of things.

3. How did you use Castor Oil in your hair last week (week 1)

-Last week I applied the oil to my scalp by sectioning my hair, lightly spray hair with water/avj mix, I part the section added oil to my scalp and massage, then I finish but rubbing from root to tip with oil and braiding/twisting my hair. I do that every other day then on Sunday I mix the oil with my homemade conditioner, put plastic cap on my head and sit for 10 mins wash it out and apply the oil again on my edges only.

My hair picked out, as you can see it goes from thin to thick, showing you all how Castor Oil is thickening my once thin hair

Have great weekend everyone, Love ya.

Winter Challenge Check-In Week 1

Hello Natural Beauties,

Tomorrow is the last day to complete KinkyCurlyCoilyMe winter challenge 2012 check-in for week one. It is always the last day to get register as well if you haven't done so already. The check-in for this week is just 3 easy questions that just basically gets us going on background of you and of course your hair.

I want share with you my answer to the questions that Jenell have posted, now remember these are her questions for all the ladies that are apart of the challenge.

Question 1 How long have you been natural? Did you Big Chop or Transition? Why did you choose this method? If you are not natural, do you think it is something you would consider in your future, why/why not?

I been natural for 4 years now November 2008, I transition for year and half decided to cut off the little pieces of relaxed ends. I chose this method because I wasn't that comfortable with doing Big Chop, I wasn't all that sure of how I would look with all my hair cut off.

Question 2: Is this your first time participating in the Castor Oil Challenge?

Yes and No, I say this because if you were to think about my own personal challenge that I didn't complete all the way through then you would say no this is not my first Castor Oil Challenge . I say yes because this is something big out of what I was personally doing that includes a lot of women around the world.

Question 3: What is motivating you to participate in this challenge?

I'm motivated to be apart of this challenge because out of the 4 years I been natural, I can say that I was a hair abuser for far too long. When I first being to transition I was on top of my game with my hair, soon my 2 year of being natural it went down hill from there. I would wash my hair for like 2 or 3 months at a time. Then the first time I ever clipped my ends was this year May of 2012. I'm just motivated to get back to taking care of my hair and it starts here.

This just sample of my hair journey, I plan to make a different blog post going deep into my hair journey.

Until Next Time Love,

Winter Castor Oil Challenge

Hello Natural Beauties,

If you haven't seen my latest videos on YouTube, I talked about this Challenge that I can't wait to kick off that is started by Jenell who's website is called KinkyCurlyCoilyMe. She is inviting anyone from relaxed to natural ladies or fellows to join this challenge that Starts Dec. 1,2012 ends March 1, 2013. I just can't wait for this month to be over to start this challenge, if you haven't heard about it I'm letting you know now so go over to her website and get register by Dec. 7,2012 which is the last day to register. Also go get your castor oil now if you haven't, you can get it from beauty supply store and online as well.

To Register its 3 simple steps not hard at all:

  1. Comment on the post of the challenge and let her know what Castor Oil your going to be using.
  2. Let Jenell know how your going to be using the castor oil and how often your going to be using it. The mini times to use the castor oil is 3x's a week.
  3. Let her know the length of your hair and post the pictures as well and that is how you register.

Another part of the challenge which is optionally, I'm going to be doing the weekly check-ins that Jenell will be having for people who wants to do this part of the Challenge. This part is prize give away at the end but I'm doing this part to actually know where I stand in this challenge because this will be a challenge for me to stay on top of what I want to achieve out of this challenge. As I do the weekly check-ins with Jenell I'm always going to be doing videos as well so you ladies can know where I stand in this challenge so be on look out for that.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend

Hello Natural Beauties,

I hope you ladies weekend was great, its Sunday the beginning of the week and its time to get back to school or work for me its both, before we start the rest of our week off great I want to share with you all my weekend events. I had a great weekend it was filled with so many activities. Friday, I had to for the last time before it gets really cold put some ribs and chicken on the grill. Yes your girl can throw down in the kitchen lol.

I was every Thankful for the first time ever I was able to see my favorite gospel group, my girls Erica and Tina better known as Mary Mary. That was the best concert I ever been to in my life, I was so humble to be there and I really want to see them again.

Even though I'm 20 years I can still act like I'm 5 years old, I feel that's how you keep from looking old is to always find time to have fun, laugh, smile and just enjoy life. Anyways, Saturday I was able to attend my cousin's 4 birthday party at this jumping places (I forget the name). Seeing all my little cousins and the other kids playing, I was wishing out loud that "man I wish I was kid again so I can climb and slide down the stuff" and one of the staff like adults can get on too. That all I needed to hear, I pulled out my socks (don't ask why I had socks in my purse lol) and went paid my money to play and it went from there.

Now all of the fun is over its time for me get back to the school work and work. Before all that I just have to get up and go to Church which was great and moving for me. I have been apart of New Mountain Top Baptist Church, Pastor Dr. A Reginald Litman since I was 15 and I love my Church and Pastor. That was my weekend and I started my week off right so I hope you all have a bless week, I will be having more post and videos coming this week.

Protective Styles

Protective styles is a major step in having healthy hair. As I sit here and write this post my hair is in a protective style. I'm fan of wigs in the fall and winter time, just under those wigs my hair itself is twisted up, dripping with grape seed oil, and wrap in saran wrap. Yes this is my way of keeping my ends moist while I wear my wigs.

When I think about protective styles, what comes to mind is tucking away your ends to protective them from any forms of damage such as heated weather or cold weather. The ends of your hair is the oldest hair then hair from your roots. You want to protective those ends to keep from having split ends that would lead to breakage. I know I don't want my hair to break off and I know for sure you don't want your hair to break off either ladies so keep your ends protective.

Here are some pictures of my protective styles and just some random pictures of different ladies:

Everyone have a Great Weekend

Top 10 Tips on Transiting frorm Relaxed to Natural

I have been asked questions on how or what I was doing personal for my hair when I was transiting from relaxed to natural. I came up with my 10 tips to share with you all, I hope these tips can help you ladies out the same way it has helped me so, here they are:

  1. Big Chop or Grow your hair out, You can either chow off your hair or just grow your hair out completely.
  2. Be Gently, PLEASE take it easy on your hair do not be rough with your hair unless you don't want any.
  3. Protective Styles, If you don't feel like dealing with your own hair do braids, sew-in, or wear a wig.
  4. Moisturize, If you are transiting from relaxed to natural moisturize once a week or once every 3 weeks no more then month but if you are completely natural then moisturize 2 to 3 times a week.
  5. Products, I only used one product when I was transiting but when I became fully natural I had to change products until I found the right one which I used for almost 2 years but I stop using it to so I can start my journey of just using all natural products.
  6. Research, Do your research so you can be able to know what products would work for your hair and what to look out for.
  7. Curl Patterns, You will not be able to determine your curls right away because your relaxed ends are weighing down your natural curls so once you become fully natural your naturals curls will pop and you will love it.
  8. Take in your own natural beauty
  9. Health, DO NOT focus more on the length of your hair but, more on the health so you can have longer hair.
  10. Be Patient
I do hope these tips were helpfully, I went into full details in my video so check it out and feel free to share your tips as well.
